- Do you allow rehearsals at the studio? Yes. It is primarily for recording but you can absolutely rehearse here at a discounted rate on an ala-carte basis and even potentially as a lockout situation if it is a good fit for both the group and the studio.
- Do you have house drum kit or other gear available for use at our session? Yes there are two house kits to choose from. Check out the gear list page for more info on drums, amps and other available gear. If there’s something else you’d need just ask 🙂 I usually recommend drummers bring at least their throne, pedals, cymbals, and snare.
- What our your rates for recording? Currently the baseline pricing for studio time with engineer included is $50/hour or $300 for an 8 hour day session. Find out more and check for specials on the rates page.
- Can we pay less and bring our own engineer? Yes and No. I charge full price and attend at least the first session or until I know the engineer is trustworthy, and capable of providing the quality and efficiency of service I expect to be associated with my studio. When this trust has been established a discounted rate without an in house engineer can be discussed.
- Why should we record with you? Because it will be fun, and it will sound good! I’ll try my best to make sure we’re all happy with the process and the product, while fostering a friendly and supportive environment for you to create in.
- Can you make it sound exactly like our demo? Perhaps the demo is already what you’re looking for and a session might be a waste of our time? If not bring it in and we’ll try to catch the best parts of the demo and improve on the rest of it.
- Do you do mixing and/or mastering? Yes I do. I charge either a flat fee per song and provide up to three revisions at that rate, or I mix at the normal studio rates with the clients in studio. The latter is not my favorite way to work, but sometimes is the best way for the client to get what they think they are going for 🙂
- Can we save money by doing some additional overdubs at home, or mix the recordings ourselves? Yes. I am here to offer whatever service you need help with in the production process, you might just want to track drums at the studio and do the rest at home. Or maybe record and mix the whole thing in your tiny house and send it to me for mastering. Or you might want to come here as a one stop shop where you can take your initial idea to fully mixed and mastered song or album at an affordable rate.
- Do you host shows at the studio? We have had a few limited capacity shows at the studio, and hope to do these with more regularity in the future. There is also potential to use the coffee shop below us for live performances with a higher capacity.
- Can I come check out the studio before I book a session to help decide if its a good fit? Please do! I provide free 30 min tours/consultations to potential interested customers. Contact me to arrange an appointment!
- How do I book a session? Contact me via the form on this site, or email me at supersecretstudios.pdx@gmail.com to discuss your session. When we find a date that works, I require a $50 non refundable but transferable deposit to reserve your session. If your session falls through you can apply the deposit toward a rescheduled date in the next 6 months.
- Are you hiring engineers/interns? I am open to engineers looking for a spot to record bands using my space, but I currently don’t have enough volume of business to hire another in house engineer, or pass off leads. Currently there is no internship program here but this could change. Feel free to reach out if you’re interested or if you need a space to work out of!
